Grief Ministry

"If one member suffers in the body of Christ which is the Church, all the members suffer with that member" (1 Corinthians 12:26).

 

"For this reason, those who are baptized into Christ and nourished at the same table of the Lord are responsible for one another. When a member of Christ's Body dies, the faithful are called to a ministry of consolation to those who have suffered the loss of one whom they love. Christian consolation is rooted in the hope that comes from faith in the saving death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christian hope faces the reality of death and the anguish of grief but trusts confidently that the power of sin and death has been vanquished by the risen Lord". (Order of Christian Funerals (1998) pg. 3, 4).

 

 

Are you grieving or know someone who has suffered the loss of a loved one? St. Michael the Archangel Parish has a ministry of consolation called "Mourning with Hope". You can contact us for more grief support services by calling the pastoral staff at ext. 215.

The volunteers in the "Mourning with Hope" ministry send out beautiful hand-made cards for approximately a year with a surviving member of the family of those who turn to St. Michael the Archangel Parish for funeral services. This ministry partners with other ministries to help with The All Soul's Day Mass. These ministers also help with a Lenten bereavement workshop called Grieving With Great Hope. The volunteers meet twice a year in addition to the Mass and the bereavement workshop. If you feel called to reach out to those who suffer loss, why not try this beautiful ministry!
